R53 Suspension working with Garage 59 as team takes on the Nürburgring 24 Hours

Updated: Sep 25, 2020

The Nürburgring 24-hour race, or ‘ADAC TOTAL 24h-Rennen’, is one of the toughest races on the motorsport calendar. Run on the 25km combination of the Nordschleife and the Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit, every lap has 154 turns for the drivers to memorise. With over a hundred cars on track and almost 12 hours of darkness expected at this year’s race, the teams need to be sure that every person and every part is ready for the challenge.

This weekend, Garage 59 is running the brand new Aston Martin Vantage GT8R, which sits between the ultra-successful Vantage GT3 and GT4 race cars and is optimised for the race’s SP8T regulations.

R53 Suspension has developed a damper specifically to suit the Garage 59 Aston Martin, based on the R53’s 5-way, thru-rod twin-tube with optimised strokes and minimum weight. R53’s fast and efficient calculating method has allowed the damper to be quickly optimised for the Vantage GT8R, reducing track testing time to achieve a high-quality set up.

When it isn’t hosting the annual 24-hour race, the Nordschleife is the test facility of choice for many of the world’s car manufacturers. It’s unique combination of corners makes it the perfect test bed for parts such as brakes, tyres and, of course, suspension.

The R53 suspension thru-rod damper uses R53’s unique OptiFlow Technology (OFT) which enables greater control and a smoother ride on this highly demanding circuit. OFT technology is adaptive to the varied Nordschleife conditions of different inputs compared to a normal race circuit.

The Nürburgring 24 Hours starts this Saturday 26 September at 15:30hrs CET (14:30 BST) and can be followed online here: https://www.24h-rennen.de/en/experience-online/
